Experiment on Injection of SIC and BN Nanoparticles into Liquid Aluminum Using MHD Stirring with Subsequent Crystallization of the Melt

Abstract The paper describes the technique and results of experiments on introduction SiC BN nanoparticles into an aluminum melt contained in a cylindrical crucible with water-cooled bottom heated walls. was placed MHD stirrer, which generated travelling rotating magnetic fields ensuring such way bidirectional stirring liquid metal crucible. After introducing reinforcing particles, stirred directionally crystallized. Reinforcing particles were introduced molten as component pressed pellets. Pellets diameter 20 mm thickness 15 made from mixture powder (100-156 µm) (100-200 nm) by pressing special pellet die. concentration pellets selected using preliminary 5% their total weight. In some experiments, reinforced amount 0.59%, 1.04%, 1.77%, while other hexagonal 7%, 1%, 1.8% ingot As experiment showed, formulated tablets can be means stirring. dependence ultimate strength electrical resistance it has been obtained experimentally.
